About Bacal & Associates Websites
We tend to do things just a bit differently than most companies. Perhaps that's because my background (It's Robert speaking) is different from a lot of other people who run websites, or run businesses, for that matter.
It's not surprising, then that our websites kind of evolved on their own over many years to become what they are today. First, doing a website was more of a hobby than a business endeavor, and our first site was a text only site (remember Lynx) hosted on a Freenet in Winnipeg. Then we tried our hands at doing websites on free website hosts, some of which are still around if you want to hunt them down.
Originally, our niche topic sited grew out of the successes we had with work911.com and articles911.com. Work911 was our first really serious business site to showcase our services and talents, while articles911 was a directory created to link to our articles found in various places on the web, plus for us to use as a means of keeping track of articles we thought were good. The first articles911 site was, essentially, a way for us to not lose stuff we found on the net in the course of our own research and learning.
As things progressed, and the web became the business and communication tool that it is now (around 2000) we continued to develop similar sites that focused on sharing the content we found useful. That's why our sites tend to cluster around topic areas that I have operated in, such as customer service, or strategic planning, because the sites don't just serve readers. They serve ME, as an author and practitioner.
That's basically how our sites evolved and of course, over time, we've had tens of millions of real actual visitors, most passing through, but some staying and/or returning to use the free content.
So, that's the overview of the early days, and purpose. Our philosophy is that when we find good articles available without fee and without having to sign up or register, we add them to the appropriate site because we believe part of our role in fostering learning is to make it easy to find the really really good stuff, among what is getting to be, quite frankly, an pile of steaming intellectual dung. But, that's another topic.
Here's links to some of our websites.
